Political discussion on photo ID sparks local confusion about Missouri voter ID rules

The Missouri Secretary of State’s office is reminding Show-Me State residents that the voter identification rules have not changed, despite an ongoing local and national discussion about photo ID requirements.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan said Thursday that her office has fielded several questions from Missouri residents about the types of identification required at the polling station this year.

Carnahan attributed the confusion to debates in Missouri and around the country about laws requiring voters to show specific types of government-issued ID at the polling station. Kansas election officials are also running advertisements in the Kansas City metro to publicize that state’s new voter ID law.
