Iowa ID requirements for absentee ballots

Who is eligible for Absentee Voting?

Any registered voter in Iowa may request an absentee ballot through their county auditor.

Do you need to submit ID with your absentee ballot request?

Voters requesting absentee ballots will be required to include their driver’s license/non-driver’s ID numbers or their four-digit Voter PIN from their Voter Identification Card. Voters without an Iowa Driver’s License or Non-Operator ID number are mailed an Iowa Voter Identification Card at the time of registration.

Do you need to submit ID with your ballot?

No, but the signature on the vote-by-mail ballot must match the voter registration signature.

If you registered to vote by mail and are voting by absentee ballot in your first federal election, you must enclose a copy of your photo ID or document bearing your name and residence address in the envelope with your voted ballot.
