Who is eligible for Absentee Voting?

Must meet ONE of the following:

  • Absent from your county or, if a resident of New York City absent from said city, on Election Day.
  • Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability; or because you are the primary caregiver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled.
  • A resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital.
  • Detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.

Do you need to submit ID with your absentee ballot request?

Absentee voters do not need to provide ID.

Do you need to submit ID with your ballot?

No, but the signature on the vote-by-mail ballot must match the voter registration signature.

If you registered to vote by mail and are voting by absentee ballot in your first federal election, you must enclose a copy of your photo ID or document bearing your name and residence address in the envelope with your voted ballot.
