Voting in Person
Kansas requires photo ID to vote in person.
Accepted Photo IDs
You can use the following IDs if they are unexpired or do not display an expiration date. If you are 65 years or older, you can use an acceptable ID that is expired.
Issued by any state or district of the United States:
- Driver’s license
- State ID card
- Concealed handgun license
Issued by municipal, county, state, or federal government office:
- Employee ID
- Public assistance ID card
Other forms of acceptable ID:
- US Passport
- Military ID
- Student ID card issued by an accredited higher-education institution in Kansas
- Tribal ID
Voting by Mail
Any registered Kansas voter can vote by mail.
You must include the ID number from your current Kansas driver’s license or Kansas nondriver’s identification card when you apply for your advance ballot by mail.
If you do not have one of these forms of ID, you must include a copy of an acceptable photo ID with your application.
Requesting an Absentee Ballot
If you have an unexpired Kansas driver’s license or ID, you must put its number on your application.
If you do not have one, you should send a copy of photo ID with your application.
You can use one of these IDs:
- Driver’s license or ID issued by Kansas or another state
- US passport
- Public assistance card issued by US, Kansas, or local government
- Student ID issued by institution of higher education accredited by Kansas
- Tribal ID
- Military ID issued by US
- Employee ID issued by US, Kansas, or local government
- Handgun license issued by Kansas or another state
You will also need to give your name, birthday, and the address where you want the ballot to be sent.
Returning Your Advance Ballot
You must sign the outside envelope when you complete your ballot. This signature will be checked against voter registration records.
You don’t have to send any ID with your ballot.
Election officials will inform you if the signature on your ballot envelope doesn’t match their records. You’ll have an opportunity to confirm your signature.
