Voter ID in Connecticut

What is your plan for voting?

Voter ID rules are different based on whether you vote by absentee ballot or in person.

Voting by Absentee Ballot

You can vote using an absentee ballot if:

  • You are a registered voter in Connecticut
  • You can’t go to your polling place for a valid reason, including being sick or having a physical disability.
You need to apply to receive your absentee ballot. You are not required to include an ID with your application or when you return your completed ballot.

Connecticut does not allow you to return your ballot electronically.

Voting in Person

You will be asked to show an acceptable ID to vote in Connecticut.

You can use:

  • Social Security Card
OR
  • Any other pre-printed form of ID that shows one of the following:
    • Your name and address
    • Your name and signature
    • Your name and photo

If you don’t an ID that works, you can still vote if you sign a form (called an affidavit) confirming your identity.
