Arizona requests documents proving your citizenship when you register to vote. Arizonans who do not provide proof of citizenship can only register as “federal only” voters.
⭐ If you are planning to vote in person, you will also need to present an accepted form of ID at the polls! Check the list of options here. ID is not required to vote by mail.
Being a “federal only” voter means you can vote for Congress and President, but you cannot vote in state or local elections in Arizona.
You are registered as a “federal only” voter if you did not provide proof of citizenship when you registered to vote.
You can use Arizona’s voter information portal to check your registration status. The portal allows you to search for your registration record by providing the last four digits of your Social Security number.
Full ballot voters are allowed to vote in all local, state and federal election in Arizona.
To become a full ballot voter, you must provide the required proof of citizenship to your county recorder before the 2024 election deadline (Tuesday, November 5 at 7 pm). We recommend updating your registration status ASAP. Find your county recorder’s office here.
